Students work on canine performance projects with the Kennel Club’s GB Agility team, hydrotherapy projects with The Cotswold Dog Spa, assisted therapy projects in our bespoke facilities, and a diverse range of biomechanics, nutrition, physiotherapy and welfare projects with academic staff and different organisations. A professional approach Our Canine Hydrotherapy Centre on campus is pioneering new approaches to therapy and rehabilitation for dogs. Shining a spotlight on equine rehabilitation We understand the world of equine therapy and rehabilitation, with globally leading expertise in hydrotherapy and high speed treadmill treatment facilities and programmes. Over 20 years’ experience made us the ideal co-producer – alongside the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) and Petplan Charitable Trust – for the world’s first international guidelines: Equine Water Treadmills: a guide for users , which are informing the training of hundreds of sports horses worldwide. Our Margaret Giffen Centre for Rider Performance Our renowned rider performance centre is used for learning and research by over 600 Hartpury students, as well as to support riders of all abilities. Our courses have been developed in consultation with external experts and industry leaders to ensure you develop the skills and knowledge to progress within the profession. You’ll learn from highly qualified industry professionals specialising in equine veterinary nursing or small animal patient care, as well as our own expert veterinary nursing team. The online nature of this course means you’re joining a diverse community of veterinary nurses from across the UK. Perioperative Nursing and Patient Safety (Equine or small animal) Become a trained auditor As an established veterinary nurse, learning how to carry out a clinical audit may be a key part of your professional development within practice. You could be managing and measuring protocols, taking responsibility for patient safety, dealing with clients, and monitoring your surgery against corporate and/or national benchmarks from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). If you have a special interest in anaesthesia, analgesia, and the intensive care of equine patients, this course will advance your critical care nursing knowledge. You’ll develop your problem-solving skills to assist in providing appropriate anaesthetic and analgesic protocols for even the most complex of cases, providing safe and effective nursing care to all equine patients undergoing surgery. Diagnostic Imaging and Rehabilitation (Equine) Become an equine diagnostic specialist Progress your specialist skills in equine veterinary diagnostics and patient rehabilitation, as you take a lead role in managing equine patient care and client communication. Volunteering Each subject area offers a range of different voluntary roles in our commercial businesses on campus for postgraduate students. Socialising Our campus offers lots of places to meet up with friends for a coffee, take a walk or try something new. With 360 hectares to explore, multiple cafes and restaurants, clubs and societies, and plenty of spectator sport, you’ll always find something to suit your mood. Our brand new student eatery Graze opened in 2022 . Grab food on the go, meet friends for a coffee or bite to eat, or catch up on your studies in relaxed social areas. University Learning Hub You’ll be among the first students to use our brand-new £12.75 million university learning facility, set to open during the 2023-24 academic year. With a mix of social and quiet study spaces, books and resources, and access to our learning and careers support teams, it’s a great study spot if you’re on campus. Sports Academies If you’re succeeding in competitive sport and want to continue training as an athlete alongside your studies, you’ll be keen to secure a place in one of our 10 sports academies. Sports Academy membership costs £300 each year, but this is subject to change so please check our website for the latest costs. Riding and livery Enjoy equine activities, workshops, clinics, and recreational riding as part of the riding school or student-led Equestrian Club.* If you have your own horse, you can also apply for DIY livery on campus or one of the many local liveries nearby. We have 230 stables in our equine centre, including 150 stables dedicated to student livery.
