Animal courses at Hartpury

Prepare for a fulfilling career working with and caring for animals in a range of roles. Our courses in Animal Care, Science, and Management will give you the theoretical and hands-on experience to make a difference to the lives of animals.

Animal Management Level 3* If you want to work with animals and manage every aspect of their care, our Animal Management BTEC diploma is for you. Our students study a range of topics related to the animal management industry, including Animal Welfare, Animal Behaviour, Breeding, Health, Genetics, Ecology and Conservation, Aquatics, and Human-Animal Interaction. You’ll apply theory through practical sessions in our extensive animal collection. Work experience will help you broaden your experience in a real-life setting. Your progression opportunities Our students have gone on to complete Human Animal Interaction with Psychology, Applied Animal Science with Therapy, Bioveterinary Science, and Veterinary Nursing at Hartpury University, or degrees in Rural Land Management, Marine Biology, and other related subjects at other institutions. This could lead to a career as a: • Animal Officer or Inspector • Biologist • Ecologist • Kennel, Cattery, or Rescue Centre Manager • Stud Manager • Veterinary Nurse • Wildlife Conservation Officer • Zoologist • Animal Technician or Nutritionist • Animal Welfare Centre Manager

Animal Science Level 3* If you want to study the biology of animals and progress onto an animal science, bioveterinary science, or veterinary medicine (depending on entry requirements) degree, this Animal Science Extended Diploma is for you. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to get hands-on with the domestic and exotic species in our animal collection and put your skills into practice. Work experience will allow you to gain extra experience of the animal science industry in a real-life setting. Your topics could include Biology, Breeding, Genetics, Health, Nursing, Advanced Animal Nutrition, Animal Metabolism, and Business Management. Your progression opportunities Our students have gone on to study Veterinary Medicine, Paleobiology and Evolution, Veterinary Nursing, Veterinary Physiotherapy, Biomedical Science, Zoology, and Ecology and Conservation at university, as well as other related degrees. This could lead to a career as a: • Animal or Equine Behaviourist • Animal Officer or Inspector • Animal Technician or Nutritionist • Animal Welfare Centre Manager • Kennel, Cattery, or Rescue Centre Manager • Laboratory Scientist • Researcher • Zoologist • Veterinary Nurse • Veterinary Surgeon
