Get excited We hope you’re excited about joining us in September. As we’re easing out of lockdown, you’re no doubt starting to think about what your first year here will be like.

It’s likely that life will be back to its new normal by September. However, we’re planning for every scenario to ensure that, regardless of the situation, we’re able to provide you with the Ofsted Outstanding student experience that we’re known for. We’ve been providing our students with a mix of online and campus- based learning when allowed during the last year. Our small class sizes and outdoor learning spaces have made it possible for our students to continue to develop practical skills and experience. Student feedback about our teaching adaptations and extra support has been overwhelmingly positive. Throughout this booklet, you’ll get a taste of some of the opportunities and experiences ahead of you – many of these are still happening now, in a Covid-secure way. We’ll support your personal and professional growth, helping you to become a confident and resilient young personwith the key life and employability skills for a successful future. Our A-level, diploma and Access to HE students have the opportunity to get involved in a whole range of extracurricular activities, specially designed to help them gain valuable life skills and real-world experience. We’ll help you to take advantage of as much as you can while you’re here, so you stand out from the crowd when you’re applying for your dream university place or a job doing what you love. StudyingA-levels Our A-level students have additional time built into their timetable to take part in an enrichment programme. Recently, students have been able to choose from special interest groups, such as dissection, debating or astronomy, a Pre-Vet qualification, subject-specific study or training with our competitive Sports Academies. By honing your skills and challenging yourself to learn new things, you’ll be one step closer to achieving your goals. Studying our diplomas Our diploma and Access to HE students learn inside and outside the classroom. Home to real businesses and world-class facilities, our big rural campus provides plenty of opportunities to put the theory into practice. Add that to your external work experience, and you’ll be developing an impressive CV for university or employment.

Your Hartpury Certificate

We’re committed to our students’ academic and personal development. That’s whywe’ve developed our unique Hartpury Certificate – a full enrichment programme of activities. Our students gainwork experience, strengthen their numeracy and literacy skills, and create and work towards a career plan – which they evidence to employers and universities through their e-portfolio. Our Hartpury Certificate Plus is a new initiative that provides extra opportunities for A-level, diploma and Access to HE students to prepare for work or further training, alongside their main qualification. Over and above the elements of the Hartpury Certificate, it allows you to select additional activities based on your areas of interest. You’ll develop your confidence and resilience through a range of extracurricular activities. Recent opportunities have included the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, our Student Ambassador scheme and workshops on setting up a business or creating your personal brand.

Ready for the real world

Work experience is a great way to gain industry experience and try out the job you’ve always wanted. We’ll provide a range of opportunities to put your classroom-based learning into practice. Find out what you enjoy the most and be ready to hit the ground running. All of our courses include work experience, either in your first or second year. With access to over 2,000 employers, we’ll help you to find a position that matches your aspirations and support you to achieve your goals. During Covid-19, we have continued to support our students to gain experience on work placement. You’ll evidence your hands-on skills and experience in your e-portfolio as part of your Hartpury Certificate. This will put you ahead of the curve when applying for university places or jobs. Depending on your course, you’ll have opportunities to gain practical experience right here on campus. As part of your learning or through volunteering opportunities, develop important skills with access to our commercial farm, Agri-Tech Centre, advanced dairy parlour, world-class equestrian centre, or 70-species animal collection. Off campus, you could compete against other colleges in subject-specific competitions and make the most of opportunities to gain experience with industry employers.

Get out in the field

We believe you learn best when you’re doing. As an A-level, diploma or Access to HE student, you’ll put your lessons into practice during field trips, study tours and practical activities. Here are some recent examples of the great experiences our students have been having during normal times, as part of their learning. Our diploma andAccess to HE students Animal students recently had the trip of a lifetime in Borneo. They trekked across the rainforest, cruised down the river to see monkeys and fireflies, and visited an orangutan rehabilitation centre. Agriculture students spend between 300 hours and one year gaining hands-on skills on local farms and our award-winning farm business on campus. Farm duties are a key part of the course, to develop practical skills for the future. Equine students have travelled toWhite Stallion Ranch, Arizona to experience western riding, and the world-famous Spanish Riding School in Vienna to see different training techniques in action. Sports students have enjoyed trips toWembley Stadium, Villa Park and the SnowDome, tours abroad to compete with other colleges, and placements with big sports brands. Outdoor Adventure and Uniformed Public Services students spend several days a week completing practical sessions. From sailing, climbing and caving, to police team building, RAF practical days and firefighter training, no two days are ever the same.

OurA-level students There are plenty of practical activities for our A-level students.* Here are just some of the trips they’ve had in recent years: • Geography – fieldwork at Seaton Beach and Cardiff Bay. • Biology – residential trips to Margam Country Park and Slimbridge Wetland Centre. • Psychology – a big industry conference in Paris. • Physical Education – Boardman Performance Centre to witness fitness testing. • History – Auschwitz with the Holocaust Education Trust and the Houses of Parliament. • Physics – Culham Centre for Fusion Energy and The Big Bang Fair for young scientists. • Business and Economics – behind-the-scenes access to the Morgan Car Factory. • English – theatre trips and a revision conference. Your facilities

Learn in specialist facilities used by students, staff and industry professionals. Some of our facilities are run as commercial businesses, so you’ll develop the latest skills and have the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience.

Agriculture, farm and Agri-Tech Centre Benefit from your own 360-hectare classroom. Develop hands-on skills on our commercial campus farm, supplying Sainsbury’s, Müller, Waitrose and Glencore. Gain experience of the latest smart farming technology in our £2 million Agri-Tech Centre and advanced new dairy parlour. Animal Centre Our campus is home to over 70 species, ranging from ferrets, meerkats and prairie dogs, to emus, llamas and our giant sulcata, Millie, in our new tortoise enclosure. Benefit from a Walled Animal Garden, reptile and invertebrate rooms, aviaries, an orchard paddock, and equine and livestock centres. Equine Centre Get career ready as you take part in practical sessions using our world-class Racewood Eventing simulators and horses in our equine yard, available for learning or riding opportunities. Weekly competitions are a great way to have fun as you improve. Our 230-stable livery yard means that you could bring your own horse with you.

A-levels, classrooms and labs Expand your knowledge in our modern College Learning Centre and well-equipped laboratories. You’ll study three A-levels for 18 hours per week, take part in supervised study sessions, and develop your employability and life skills with our extensive enrichment programme. Sports Academy Our £8.8 million Sports Academy offers high-tech facilities, including specialist labs, rehabilitation suite, power gym and multi sports hall, as well as sports pitches. These facilities are used by students in our Sports Academies to reach their athletic potential. Outdoor Adventure and Uniformed Public Services Experience a range of outdoor sports, utilising our 360-hectare campus and visiting places such as Aztec Adventures (Upton Warren), Viney Hill Christian Adventure Centre, Lake 86 Water Park and the Rive Wye. Lead activities and gain professional qualifications.

Fancy a bite? Head to one of our restaurants for hot and cold food options, or pop into our Red & Black café, serving Costa coffee, for a drink and a snack. With food points scattered across campus, you’ll never go hungry. Your Heroes Common Room has a range of tasty lunch and dinner options. It’s your space to chill out with your friends, play some pool and relax on the sofas.

When you join our Hartpury family, you’ll automatically become part of our Students’ Union (SU). Run by current students, there’s always lots of great opportunities for you to get involved in. We’re here to represent you on the issues that matter. We’ll provide guidance throughout your time here, as well as plenty of opportunities for you to make the most of student life. We’ll help you settle in and make friends – and we promise to throw lots of great events and activities on campus. Make sure you join some of our clubs and societies. You could get involved in something you already enjoy or try your hand at something new. FromGreen Leaders, the Gaming Society and Polocrosse, through to the LGBT+ Society, Disabled Students’ Network and Give it a Go Society, you’re sure to find something you love. There are somany wonderful opportunities to get involved in. Come and find us in your Freshers’ Week and we can tell you all there is to know.

Supporting you

You’ll learn in a safe and supportive environment, with access to everything you need to achieve your best. Our dedicated learning support teams are here to help make your Hartpury experience an enjoyable one. Aspire – learning support Our Aspire Learning Support team will work with you to create a personalised support plan, based on your individual needs and goals. We can provide support for specific learning difficulties, including extra time, scribes or a reader in exams. We can also help you with literacy and numeracy, planning your work, exam preparation and study skills. Academic support As soon as you arrive you’ll be assigned a personal tutor, who will support you to reach your academic goals. They’ll be your first port of call if you have any questions about your lessons or assignments. With an open door policy, either in person or via a phone or video appointment, they’ll always make time to see you. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Wardens Our students tell us that living at Hartpury is a wonderful experience. Don’t worry if it’s your first time away from home. You’ll have wardens available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They’ll do everything they can to ensure you’re happy, healthy and safe at all times. International support Whether you’ve previously studied in the UK or not, our dedicated international teamwill provide support and guidance throughout your application – from visa support to booking accommodation – and while you’re here.

Your wellbeing

Your wellbeing is a top priority for us. With access to counsellors, medical specialists and multi-faith chaplaincy teams, you’ll have everything you need to be happy and healthy while you’re here. Wellbeing support Our friendly Student Services and Wellbeing teams can offer you advice on everything from finance and accommodation to health and wellbeing. If you need to talk, they offer a safe and private environment and are always ready to listen. You can pop into the office, or set up a face-to-face, phone or video call appointment. Wellfest In recent years, we’ve run a ‘Wellfest’ wellbeing event in the first few weeks of term, dedicated to student issues. Whether it’s a physical event, or online due to Covid-19, interactive sessions will cover important topics such as physical and mental wellbeing, safe driving, drugs and alcohol, anti-bullying and sexual health. We’ll tell you more about it when you get here.

Need some financial support?

There’s no charge for tuition fees for UK students under 19 years- old. For international students, course fees are £10,000 per year. We offer a range of bursaries to help with the cost of college. Check our website to find out more and apply.
