Welcome to a supportive community

You'll have access to a dedicated wellbeing and support team, including on-site nurses, counsellors, wellbeing officers and a chaplain. Our Achievement and Success Centre is here to provide academic, learning and wellness development support. From study skills workshops to one-to-one support sessions, they can help you manage your studies and achieve your best. This guide will overview the support available to you. We're all unique, and when it comes to support, we all have different needs. We encourage you to reach out to the relevant team at Hartpury, who’ll be happy to provide further advice and guidance. If we're not able to provide the support you need, we can refer you to someone who can. www.hartpury.ac.uk/uni-support Starting university is a big step. A supportive teaching environment

Higher education may be a step up from the learning environment you’re used to. To help you navigate newways of working and the opportunities available to you, you’ll have a dedicated personal tutor. This will compliment a wider network of lecturers in your department, also here to support you. Where possible, we try to ensure your personal tutor is the same throughout your course, so you can develop a professional relationship and make the most of your time at Hartpury. Your personal tutor can help make the transition to university-level and independent study much easier. They can also offer advice on any academic feedback you have received. As an expert in their field, they'll have a network of industry contacts – which you can utilise for valuable development opportunities such as work placements. They'll be able to provide you with a reference for future employers, too. You’ll get personalised and relevant guidance as your studies progress. Student advisors If you need support with general queries or don't knowwhich department to speak to, the student advisors are there to guide you. They can also help you understand the academic regulations or offer support if extenuating circumstances are affecting your ability to study or submit an assessment. Whenever you need to pop in and speak to them someone will be happy to help. Student advisors are available 08:30-18:30 during teaching and assessment weeks and 08:30 17:00 during holiday weeks. International support We have a strong global community at Hartpury, with students from over 60 countries. As an international student, our dedicated International team are here to support you – from before you set foot on campus right through until you graduate. They’ll guide you through everything you need to know about coming to Hartpury, including the application process and studying in the UK. international@hartpury.ac.uk

We throw a huge WellFest event at the beginning of each year dedicated to keeping all our students happy, healthy and safe. We’re joined by over 70 local and national organisations including the Samaritans, Gloucestershire Young Carers, Farming Friends, Mermaids and local Uniformed Public Services who will offer advice, information, live demonstrations and targeted workshops. By bringing all of the support services together in one place, our students will always know where to turn to for help. The day provides our students with the opportunity to network, learn new skills, have fun and find support with whatever life throws at them.

Achievement and Success Centre

Our Achievement and Success Centre (ASC) is here to help you achieve your goals and make the most of your time at Hartpury. When it comes to your grades and personal growth, our dedicated team can make a big difference. With access to our academic support and wellness development, you'll have everything you need to reach your full potential. Academic support From one-to-one support, to group sessions and online resources, our ASC has everything you need to succeed. We’ll support you to define your academic and personal goals in your development plan, and tailor our academic workshops to help you work towards them. Delivered online and face to face, you’ll have every opportunity to get the very best out of your learning. Wellness development ASC Wellness Development offers a 1:1 support service from our Wellness and Development Advisors. This is accessible to all Hartpury University students. ​ This service provides a safe environment for students to discuss anything which may be causing them worry or stress. For example, home sickness, loneliness, new friendships, academic pressures. ​ Although this is not a therapeutic service, the Advisors can guide and refer students to resources and services where appropriate.

Disability and learning support At Hartpury, we're committed to responding to individual learning support and disability needs, and take pride in the outstanding level of support we can offer our students. We also know how important it is to have the right support in place as early as possible. We can offer comprehensive learning support to students with a specific learning difference, such as dyslexia or dyspraxia, a physical or sensory impairment, medical condition or another specific difficulty such as autism or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Your next steps for arranging disability and learning support

1. Check you have evidence of your disability

For a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD) you'll need a full diagnostic assessment report. The report must have been carried out by an Educational Psychologist or Specialist Teacher. If not, please let us know. We can organise an assessment for you at Hartpury before you start your course. The Diagnostic Assessment costs £350, but you may be able to claim some of this money back when you enrol. If you have a medical condition or impairment, you'll need evidence from your doctor or specialist. 2. Apply for Disabled Students’ Allowances Support for students is provided on an individual basis, normally through Disabled Students' allowances (DSAs). DSAs pay for one-to-one study skills support and specialist equipment. Although you can apply at any time, it's best to apply before you start your course. www.gov.uk/disabled-students allowances-dsas 3. Book your study needs assessment Following your application for DSAs, your funding body will write to advise you whether you are eligible. If you are, you will arrange to have a study needs assessment. This is an informal assessment to confirm the support that you require for your course and is paid for through DSAs at no cost to you.

Innovation, Careers and Enterprise

Our Innovation, Careers and Enterprise (ICE) teamwill help you to discover, develop and plan for an exciting career doing something you love. We'll use the KASE framework to support you to develop the knowledge, attributes, skills and experience to stand out from the crowd when applying for your dream job. We’re here to help you explore your options, make informed decisions, recognise what you’re good at, and develop your specialist and transferrable skills. Our services Make the most of careers and employability workshops, 1:2:1 careers coaching, and the opportunity to meet potential employers at our career insight days. The careers portal allows you to create your own skills portfolio, book appointments with our consultants, and access handy resources. Placements and work-based learning We work with over 2,500 business to help you find the right work placements. Our campus is home to professional businesses and large industry events, across all our subject areas. From the day-to-day running of a commercial enterprise to valuable behind the scenes insights, you will have the opportunity to volunteer to gain industry experience as you study. Nurture your entrepreneurial side We’ll support you to set up your own business, if that’s your dream. Our Enterprise Launchpad provides access to professional advice, specialist resources and a network of successful entrepreneurs.
