That’s why we’ve developed our unique Hartpury College Certificate – a full CV-boosting enrichment programme of activities, designed to help our students with key employability skills, and to stand out from the crowd. Your qualification will equip you with the practical skills and knowledge of your subject area, but it’s often your extracurricular activities that really stand out to employers. Gaining practical experience in a real world setting is an important part of our students’ learning. It’s a key part of the Hartpury College Certificate. We partner with over 3,000 industry employers to help prepare our students for the world of work. Commercial campus experience Students have access to 11 commercial businesses and industry events on campus – from research conferences to equine and sports events – for plenty of CV-boosting voluntary opportunities. As part of core learning, students also work in teams to develop their skills, gaining practical expertise. For some, this has included learning how to manage our commercial farm, animal collection or livery yard, carrying out equine or canine training in our international arenas, or developing coaching skills in our state-of-the-art sports facilities. "Having access to so many opportunities at Hartpury has prepared me for my dream career. I completed a 10-week coaching placement running PE sessions at a local primary school. Personal tutor Your tutor will support you to reach your academic goals. They’ll be your first port of call if you have any questions about your lessons or assessments.
Wellbeing is a top priority for us. We’ll support you from day one. You’ll have a team of people around you – from a personal tutor and your lecturers, to learning specialists and wellbeing experts – to support you with whatever you need. Aspire We’ll work with you to create a personalised support plan based on your individual needs and goals. The Aspire team can provide support for dyslexia, dyspraxia, ASD or ADHD; social, emotional or behavioural difficulties; visual or hearing impairments; and physical difficulties, including assessments for extra time, scribes, or a reader in exams. Finance Tuition fees If you’re a UK, Crown Dependency (Guernsey, Jersey or the Isle of Man) or Republic of Ireland (under the Common Trade Agreement) resident, and under 19 years of age on 31 August of the academic year your course starts, you do not need to pay tuition fees. If you’re an international student, you can find your tuition fees on our website. We offer an all-inclusive package for international students. This enables you to pay the bulk of the ‘extras’ in advance so you have less to organise. If you're over 19 and have to pay for your course, you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the tuition fees. There are some other circumstances when fees may not need to be paid. Visit our website or contact Student Finance using the details on page 79. In 2024/25 we provided financial assistance to over one in seven students through bursaries, scholarships and additional support, totalling over £1million.

Joining one of our societies or sports clubs is a great way to make new friends, follow your passion, or try something new. You'll have access to our Students' Union (SU). College Learning Centre Our £3.5 million College Learning Centre is dedicated to college students and provides a learning resource hub on the ground floor, including book, magazine and journal resources, as well as PCs, printers and photocopiers for use. The first floor features 15 classrooms and office space for teaching and support staff. Graze Our Graze restaurant and student hub offers a social environment to refuel, meet friends, or catch up on studies. You’ll be spoilt for choice with hot and cold food FACILITIES CAMPUS
outlets, a café serving Costa coffee, and a shop for snacks and everyday essentials. We offer plenty of transport options to make getting to and from campus as easy as possible. We run a number of routes daily, and our Home-to-College bus service operates across Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and the Cotswolds. A-LEVELS AT HARTPURY
Studying A-levels at Hartpury College will give you unparalleled opportunities to
stand out from the crowd when applying for your dream university course, apprenticeship, or employment. We offer Ofsted Outstanding teaching, learning and assessment, world-class sports and equine opportunities, and 360 hectares of industry-standard facilities to support enrichment. Our students’ academic accomplishments reflect our commitment to outstanding teaching. With access to modern learning environments, laboratories and supervised study sessions, you’ll have everything you need to succeed. In order to gain a thorough understanding of your subject, you’ll be taught by subject-specialist staff, many of whom are also external examiners. This means they understand exactly what's needed for students to succeed in their exams. We support our students to balance their studies with their chosen enrichment activity, including competitive sports or riding, or working with animals to develop Pre-Vet skills for university.

Develop the key skills, knowledge, and confidence to give you the edge when applying for jobs and university courses. Your timetable will include dedicated sessions for enrichment, allowing you to make the most of opportunities, trips, and clubs. Pre-Vet in-house qualification Aspiring vets can gain extra experience. Develop your practical skills as you work with farm livestock, horses, and domestic and exotic animals on our specialist land based campus. Special interest clubs From coding or climate change to social awareness, choose something that supports your ambitions or introduce yourself to a new subject.
Your work experience Gain a valuable insight into the workplace with a week of external work experience. Students have worked at the United Nations, the Trauma Unit at Oxford Hospital, and with lawyers and financial advisers. Recreational and competitive sports Your timetable is designed so you can continue to play and train in your chosen sport. The majority of sporting fixtures take place on Wednesday afternoons. Other activities include the Extended Project Qualification, which can help you gain extra UCAS points, supervised study sessions, and independent e-learning qualifications.

AGRICULTURE AT HARTPURY
Our students learn the theory behind agriculture before putting it straight into practice on our campus Home Farm – your own outdoor classroom. It’s the perfect place to learn, get hands-on and familiarise yourself with the latest farming technologies and industry practices. Access the latest technology, which will help you gain the specialist skills and experience needed to drive the future of the industry. You’ll be taught by experienced and passionate lecturers who’ll share their agricultural expertise. You'll be exposed to data-driven smart farming and real-world agribusiness innovations in our Agri-Tech Centre and Tech Box Park, and explore sustainable practices using simulators in our new Digital Studio. Our machinery workshops, DeLaval robotic milkers, and 380 hectares of arable and grassland across five sites also provide plenty of opportunities for you to gain experience.

Our courses offer exciting work experience opportunities both on and off site, as well as locally, regionally and nationally, to help you develop your knowledge and practical skills ready for future study or employment. Previous students have completed work experience at farms across the country, in engineering workshops, and as gamekeepers. We have excellent industry links, giving our students the chance to gain first-hand experience through trips and by listening to talks from agriculture experts. Our lecturers have worked as farm managers, engineers and gamekeepers – so you’ll benefit from their considerable experience in the commercial industry. Our students progress on to university-level study, go on to work for leading agricultural companies, and gain new skills as they progress into industry. We launched an Agri-Tech Centre for data-driven research in 2019, and a Tech Box Park for agribusiness innovation in 2022. Depending on your course, you could learn about animal health, biology, welfare and husbandry. Our well-equipped laboratories and classrooms provide the ideal learning environment. Our lecturers have worked as animal trainers, coaches, behaviourists, zoo keepers and veterinary professionals – so you’ll benefit from their considerable experience in the commercial animal industry. You’ll be able to evidence your knowledge and practical skills to employers through work experience. Previous students have worked in veterinary surgeries, rescue centres, kennels and catteries, equine yards, farms, canine enterprise, and zoological collections.

Our students spend time learning the theory of animal management and science in the classroom, before putting their lessons into practice in our large animal collection – home to domestic and exotic species. Our Animal Management Centre houses our reptile and aquatic species, while our Walled Garden Animal Centre is home to rodents, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, meerkats, prairie dogs, and our giant Sulcata tortoise, Millie. Gain access to a wide variety of domestic and exotic species within our animal collection. Develop further experience in our animal therapy centres and labs. You’ll learn how to manage different species and put theory into practice in a real-life animal environment. Commercial animal businesses on campus provide additional opportunities to gain practical and business experience. These include our canine and equine therapy centres, our livestock farm, and dog-grooming salon. Our animal log cabin is open all day and popular with our students. EXPERIENCE PRACTICAL
Strengthen your theoretical understanding with practical
experiences. Hands-on learning for our animal students has included gaining an industry-recognised canine first aid certificate, developing enrichment activities for kennel dogs, exploring the importance of plants to sustain the lives of animals in different ecosystems at the Botanical Gardens, Birmingham, and carrying out zoo inspections for a taste of careers in zoology or animal husbandry. Some have even experienced conservation first-hand in South Africa.* They've contributed to real change as they've restored natural habitats, tracked and identified animals, while gaining an understanding of the latest challenges from expert scientists and conservationists. The Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre has provided opportunities for students to apply their husbandry skills in a new environment, with species unlikely to appear in our on-site animal collection, while exploring Kruger National Park, and taking a river cruise along the Blyde Canyon.

EQUINE AT HARTPURY
With world-class equine facilities, expert lecturers and plenty of opportunities
to gain commercial experience on campus, we offer an exceptional learning environment. Our students progress on to degree-level study and a range of exciting careers. You’ll learn through a mix of theory and practical sessions. Our lecturers share their knowledge of the equine industry – from eventing, showjumping and dressage to thoroughbred and stud work. You’ll get hands-on with horses on the yard in practical sessions and learn about horse care. Our renowned facilities are available as part of your learning, and you could even volunteer with our specialist teams to gain industry experience around your studies. Our large equine centre provides stabling for 240 horses – including livery for 150 horses– but you don't need to have your own horse to study one of our equine courses.

ADVENTURES GLOBE-TROTTING
You could go on some amazing international trips.* Most recently, our students went riding along the beaches of the Wild Coast, South Africa. In previous years, they've ridden on the snow, among other pursuits, in Sweden. They’ve also experienced the Wild West of Hollywood movies at White Stallion Ranch. Set in Saguaro National Park, the ranch covers five miles of unspoilt desert in the heart of Arizona. Views of jagged mountain ranges and lone cacti accompanied their ride on the flats and uphill climbs of the national park. During another trip to Vienna, students took a tour of the famous Spanish Riding School to view the facilities and see different perspectives on training horses. Other activities included a Vienna sightseeing tour, a trip to an aquarium, and a day out at the zoo.

The Level 3 Extended Diploma is a riding course (by riding assessment**), while our Level 3 Extended Certificate, leading into the Level 3 Diploma has equitation and behaviour options. Gain an understanding of the management behind the equine industry. Apply theory as you take part in practical sessions on our equine yard. You'll complete a four-week block in the industry in both years to gain first-hand experience. You'll also be engaged in weekend show duties.

Equine Management (Behaviour) Level 3* Develop the theoretical and practical skills to work with horses. As well as an introduction to behaviour, you'll be involved in the care of the horses through yard duties, which will help you to develop the practical skills required for a rewarding career in the equine sector. Learn about metabolism, animal cells and practical skills in animal science, and develop scientific knowledge. You'll study a total of 15 different units over this two-year course, delivered through theory based lessons, as well as practical sessions. We offer a range of sport BTEC diplomas to give our students a thorough grounding in all
areas of sports fitness, physical education and coaching, as well as sport and exercise science.
