Get excited Going to college is a very exciting time. Here at Hartpury, you’ll get to experience new things, deepen your subject knowledge and grow into a confident and resilient young person. Our A-level and diploma students get involved in a whole range of extracurricular activities, specially designed to help them gain valuable life skills and real-world experience. We’ll help you to take advantage of as much as you can while you’re here, so you stand out from the crowd when you’re applying for your dream university place or a job doing what you love. StudyingA-levels Our A-level students have additional time built into their timetable to take part in an enrichment programme. Choose from special interest groups, such as dissection, debating or astronomy, a Pre-Vet qualification, Extended Project Qualification, subject- specific study or training with our competitive Sports Academies. You’ll be honing existing skills, challenging yourself to learn new things and moving one step closer to achieving your goals. Studying our diplomas Our diploma students learn inside and outside the classroom. When you’re not studying the theory, you’ll be out and about, putting your lessons into practice. You’ll gain plenty of hands-on experience on campus, with access to our world-class facilities and real-life businesses, and off campus through external work experience. Ready for the real world

Work experience is a great way to gain industry experience and try out the job you’ve always wanted. You’ll have lots of opportunities to put your classroom-based learning into practice. Find out what you enjoy the most and be ready to hit the ground running. All of our courses include work experience, either in your first or second year. With access to over 2,000 employers, we’ll help you to find a position that matches your aspirations and support you to achieve your goals. It’s also a key part of your Hartpury Certificate. You’ll evidence all the hands-on skills and experience you gain in your e-portfolio – which will put you ahead of the curve when applying for university places or jobs. Turn back to pages 3 – 4 to find out more about our unique certificate and extracurricular opportunities. Depending on your course, you could get some practical experience right here on campus. Gain hands-on experience of different farming operations on our commercial farm, learn about smart farming in our new Agri-Tech Centre, muck in and care for horses at our equine centre, or learn how to look after over 70 domestic and non-domestic species in our animal collection. Off campus, you could compete against other colleges in subject-specific competitions and make the most of opportunities to gain experience with industry employers.

OurA-level students There are plenty of practical activities for our A-level students.* Here’s a taste of their recent trips: • Geography – fieldwork at Seaton Beach and Cardiff Bay • Biology – residential trips to Margam Country Park and Slimbridge Wetland Centre • Psychology – a big industry conference in Paris • Physical Education – Boardman Performance Centre to witness fitness testing • History – Auschwitz with the Holocaust Education Trust and the Houses of Parliament • Physics – Culham Centre for Fusion Energy and The Big Bang Fair for young scientists • Business and Economics – behind-the-scenes access to the Morgan Car Factory • English – theatre trips and revision conference Are you ready for your adventure?

We believe you learn best when you’re doing. Our A-level and diploma students apply their classroom learning through a range of exciting field trips, study tours and practical activities. Here are just some of the ways you could gain hands-on experience for your dream job. Our diploma students Animal students recently had the trip of a lifetime in Borneo. They trekked across the rainforest, cruised down the river to see monkeys and fireflies, and visited an orangutan rehabilitation centre. Agriculture students complete one year of work experience as part of their course. While students on our other land-based diplomas spend at least 300 hours developing their practical skills on local farms – including our award-winning farm business spread across five sites. All students complete farm duties as part of their diploma. Equine students marvelled at world-famous Spanish Riding School horses during their trip to Vienna. Avisit toWhite Stallion Ranch, Arizona exposed them to theWildWest of Hollywood movies. Sports students have enjoyed trips to huge stadiums, including Wembley and Villa Park, a visit to the SnowDome, tours abroad to compete with other colleges, and placements with big sports brands. Outdoor Adventure and Uniformed Public Services students spend several days a week completing practical sessions. From

Your facilities

Learn in specialist facilities used by students, staff and industry professionals. Some of our facilities are run as commercial businesses, so you’ll develop the latest skills and have the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience.

Agriculture, farm and Agri-Tech Centre Benefit from your own 360-hectare classroom. Develop real-life skills and experience on our Red Tractor Assured commercial campus farm, which works with Sainsbury’s, Müller and Frontier. You’ll be exposed to the latest smart farming technology in our new £2 million Agri-Tech Centre. Animal Centre Our campus is home to over 70 species, ranging from ferrets, meerkats and prairie dogs, to emus, llamas and our giant sulcata, Millie, in our new tortoise enclosure. Benefit from a Walled Animal Garden, reptile and invertebrate rooms, aviaries, an orchard paddock, and equine and livestock centres. Equine Centre Get career ready with access to world-class facilities. Our Racewood Eventing simulators are the most advanced of their kind in an education setting. You’ll develop your skills with different horses. Our 230-stable livery yard means that you could bring your own horse with you. We also have loan horses for you to gain experience with.

A-levels, classrooms and labs Expand your knowledge with access to a modern learning environment in our College Learning Centre, well-equipped laboratories and supervised study sessions. You’ll study three A-levels for 18 hours per week and develop your employability and life skills with our extensive enrichment programme. Sports Academy Our new £8.8 million Sports Academy offers amazing facilities on site. You could gain experience in our specialist labs, rehabilitation suite, power gym, multi- sports hall or out on our various sports pitches. Our world-class facilities are also used by our performance sports teams to reach their athletic potential. Outdoor Adventure and Uniformed Public Services Experience a range of outdoor sports, utilising our 360-hectare campus and visiting South Cerney Outdoor, The Warehouse Climbing and Caving Centre, and Cardiff International White Water Centre. Lead activities and gain professional qualifications.

New £2 million Agri-Tech Centre launched in 2020. We’ve invested in the future of farming with our new Agri-Tech Centre for Gloucestershire – based on our commercial campus farm. You’ll be one of the first to take part in live demonstrations and discover how smart technology is improving profitability and sustainability in farming.

Hello! I’mAlice, your Students’ Union (SU) President. Having an SU at college is exciting because usually only university students get to enjoy SU activities – but not here at Hartpury! We offer both college and university-level qualifications, so all of our students, including you, get to be part of our buzzing SU. We’re here to represent you on the issues that matter. We’ll provide guidance throughout your time here, as well as plenty of opportunities for you to make the most of student life. We’ll help you settle in and make friends – and we promise to throw lots of great events and activities on campus. Make sure you join some of our clubs and societies. You could get involved in something you already enjoy or try your hand at something new. FromGreen Leaders, the Gaming Society and Ultimate Frisbee, through to the Give it a Go Society, you’re sure to find something you love. There are somany wonderful opportunities to get involved in. Supporting you

You’ll learn in a safe and supportive environment, with access to everything you need to achieve your best. Our dedicated learning support teams are here to help make your Hartpury experience an enjoyable one. Aspire – learning support Our Aspire Learning Support team will work with you to create a personalised support plan, based on your individual needs and goals. We can provide support for specific learning difficulties, including extra time, scribes or a reader in exams. We can also help you with literacy and numeracy, planning your work, exam preparation and study skills. Academic support As soon as you arrive you’ll be assigned a personal tutor, who will support you to reach your academic goals. They’ll be your first port of call if you have any questions about your lessons or assignments. With an open door policy, they’ll always make time to see you. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Wardens Our students tell us that living at Hartpury is a wonderful experience. Don’t worry if it’s your first time away from home. You’ll have wardens available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They’ll do everything they can to ensure you’re happy, healthy and safe at all times.

Your wellbeing

Your wellbeing is a top priority for us. With access to counsellors, medical specialists and multi-faith chaplaincy teams, you’ll have everything you need to be happy and healthy while you’re here. Wellbeing support Our friendly Student Services and Wellbeing teams can offer you advice on everything from finance and accommodation to health and wellbeing. If you need to talk, they offer a safe and private environment and are always ready to listen – so pop in and see them at any time. Wellfest We’ll run a really important wellbeing event in your first few weeks here. You’ll take part in workshops and interactive activities to educate you on top student issues – including physical and mental health, wellbeing, mindfulness and safe driving. You’ll meet our therapy dogs and discover a world of support available to you. It’s an action-packed day. Last year, students saw a theatre production, watched a live demonstration by Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, and took part in a series of informative workshops on anti-bullying, drugs and alcohol, mental and sexual health. We’ll tell you more about it when you get here .

Need some financial support?

While there’s no charge for tuition fees for students under 19 years old, you may need a little extra financial support. We offer a range of bursaries and scholarships, including our Guyll-Leng bursary for agriculture, animal and equine students, learner support fund, and vulnerable learner and sports bursaries.

Our pastoral support is rated Ofsted Outstanding Staff provide excellent support to all learners which ensures that their academic, vocational and personal needs are met extremely well. Ofsted report 2019

Abdul plays internationally for Ghana. He made his debut in the 2014 FIFAWorld Cup finals. Currently a striker for RC Strasbourg Alsace (on loan from Porto B), he said: “My time at Hartpury was great for me in terms of my development, both in education and football.”

“As a Racehorse Trainer, I’m responsible for keeping the horses fit, healthy and at peak fitness ready for race day. Hartpury gave me a fantastic grounding for my career. I learnt a lot about all aspects of horse management, which helps me to evaluate injuries and decide on the best way to treat them.”

“Hartpury has given me the confidence to followmy dream of becoming a paramedic. The practical sessions helped me to develop leadership and team-building skills, as well as industry qualifications. I’m embarking on the Clipper Round theWorld Yacht Race before I start my paramedic training.”
