Where could your degree take you?
Harrison Lowe BSc Sports Coaching Coach Connect business owner
“My passion is getting young people into sport. It’swhy I set upmy business, Coach Connect. I’ve seen first-hand the positive impact that a talented coach can have on a child’s life. My goal is to connect skilled and passionate coaches with the right club tomake a real difference. I love that Hartpury is centred around sport. It gives you so many opportunities. Lecturers tailored lessons to our interests and shared real-life industry experience that linked theory to practice. Without continued support from the Innovation, Careers and Enterprise team – from idea to launch and beyond – I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Ben Jordon BSc Agriculture Nutrition Agronomist, Origin Fertilisers
“Everything leads back to the soil, my crop lecturer always said – and he was right. If it wasn’t for his passion and support, I wouldn’t have discovered a love for soil science that’s launched my career in agronomy. For me, the most rewarding part is supporting farmers to improve their yield through efficient fertiliser use. This is fundamental to feeding a growing population and protecting our land for future generations. I didn’t know where I wanted my degree to take me, but Hartpury opened my mind to the scope of careers in agriculture. I’ll always be thankful for that.”

“The best bit aboutmy job is seeing the improvements in rehabilitation cases – fromyoung dogswith hip dysplasia progressing fromnervous and lame to excited and pain free, to neurological cases being able to standwithout support. It’s rewarding to know that my skills as a Canine Hydrotherapist help to make that difference. I always wanted to be a veterinary surgeon, but I didn’t get the A-level grades I needed. I wasn’t aware of the alternative career paths. But when I came to Hartpury, I volunteered at the Canine Hydrotherapy Centre during my degree and secured my job there after graduation.” Zoe Miles BSc (Hons) Bioveterinary Science | Veterinary Physiotherapist and Canine Hydrotherapist, Canine HydrotherapyCentre (Cotswold Dog Spa)
Bryan Chan BSc Equestrian Sports Science Racing Curriculum Assistant, Hong Kong Jockey Club
“I first came to Hartpury as a para-equestrian athlete, competing in the Festival of Dressage as a qualifier for the 2012 London Paralympics. While I didn’t qualify, I did find my dreamuniversity and an exciting career in racing. Equestrian Sports Science appealed to me as an athlete, but it also sparked a passion for anatomy and dissection. I’m currently researching and writing the world’s first accredited course for racing instructors. By translating scientific knowledge into practical training for future jockeys, we can improve welfare, performance, and enhance racing for both horse and rider.”
Hannah Smith (n é e Blake) FdSc Veterinary Nursing Referral Small Animal Nurse, Vale Vets and Referrals
“I love animals andwanted a careerwhere I couldmake a difference. Every day brings a different animal and a new challenge. If you’re passionate and driven, the profession can take you anywhere and that's the best part. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the placement year. I put the skills I’d learned in Hartpury’s Veterinary Nursing Centre into practice and gained a full-time job. I used to find anaesthetics challenging, but now I support with open chest surgery. It’s a great feeling when you see the animal get better and go home, but there's always room to improve and that's what keeps the role interesting.”

Gaining extra experience In addition to watching great sports, our Sports Academies provide excellent opportunities to gain applied skills while you're here. Horses at Hartpury
Equestrian Club Take advantage of recreational riding and social events through our student-run Equestrian Club.** It’s a great place to meet like-minded friends and horse lovers outside of your classroom lectures. Other smaller clubs include our Vaulting Society, Polo, and more. Improving your riding For those of you with your own horse, you can engage in lessons, clinics, and on site competitions. If you're an established rider without your own horse, you could have riding lessons on our Hartpury horses during term time. There are also plenty of riding options locally, catering for beginners to advanced riders. Riding for competition If you’re a competition rider with your own horse, you may be eligible to join our Equine Academy. You’ll have access to world-class coaches, specialist training and some of the world's best rider performance facilities to help you reach your peak for competition. Its not just about riding The equestrian industry is far more than riding. You could volunteer in our world leading Equine Therapy Centre or within our Equine Events team. You'll gain practical skills in a real-world environment – and it could even lead to future employment.
If you love horses, you don't need to bring your own to get involved with fun equestrian activities. From our student-led club to volunteering in our Equine Therapy Centre or at local, national, or international events, there's much more to horses at Hartpury than just riding.* However, if you do want to ride every day, you'll need to consider livery and bringing your own horse with you. Livery We offer 150 stables for on-site DIY student livery within our Equine Centre. We also have great partnerships with local livery yards. Livery students can take advantage of a number of benefits including friendly and expert advice from the yard team, instructors, farriers, and on-site vets, as well as access to competitions and many of our world-class facilities.
