You’ll examine the role of different channels and look at the way this mobile technology has transformed business interactions. Sport and Exercise Nutrition: Recovery Nutrition 101 Nutrition is an essential part of health and sports performance. During this session you’ll delve into the important area of ‘recovery’ nutrition, examining the needs of athletes, based on the intensity, duration and type of exercise undertaken, body composition goals and personal preferences. Putting theory into practice, you’ll get hands-on experience of creating nutrient-dense recovery smoothies. Sport therapy: Holding it together Explore the role of athletic taping in maintaining the stability of muscles and bones during athletic activity. The technique has been proven to reduce pain and aid rehabilitation. During this session, you’ll dive straight in, getting hands-on in our brand new rehabilitation suite. You’ll screen real athletes, then prescribe and apply athletic tape to aid their recovery. Sport and Exercise Sciences; Sport Performance: Beat Bradley Wiggins! How long can you hold Sir Bradley Wiggins’ one-hour world record for? Analyse your performance on our new Wattbikes, to find out. You’ll then gain insights into sports psychology, examining the role of precognitions (visualising future events) in the success of golf’s major champions. Finally, you’ll look at measuring the electrical activity of your muscles during exercise in our new biomechanics lab, designing specialist training programmes based on what you find.
Strength and Conditioning: How quick do you lift? The speed that an athlete can move heavy loads is a strong determinant of their sporting ability. Because of this, strength and conditioning coaches will measure how fast the barbell moves when their athletes work out. Technologies such as GymAware and the Push Band give instant feedback on an individual’s condition and explosive power. You’ll learn how to use these technologies, interpret their data and design individualised strength development programmes. Sport Coaching; Physical Education and School Sports: A Holistic Approach Improving public health, wellbeing and physical activity are high on the Government’s agenda. During this practical session you’ll examine the role you could play in this, as a coach or PE teacher. You’ll get active, exploring and developing your unique coaching style and ability during our conveyer-belt of practical activities. 12.00 Lunch A sandwich packed lunch will be provided.
