We're researching the impact of drumming on the behaviour and physical performance of children with learning difficulties and autism
Here are just a few of the projects our students and staff are working on to advance the field of sport, exercise and health. Drumming and health benefits for children with learning difficulties. We've been hosting drumming sessions for children with autism and learning difficulties, as part of the ground-breaking Clem Burke Drumming Project. We’ve seen a marked improvement in children’s motor skills. We’ll be looking at the impact on behaviour and physical performance. Enhancing performance in elite youth football. Our strength and conditioning staff have been working with our student athletes to use scientific advances to improve performance. By analysing eccentric resistance training practices, their findings will inform how these techniques can be best used in the physical development of youth footballers. Study into children’s fitness will inform national policy. Our staff and postgraduate students have been researching movement competency and physical activity of schoolchildren. Findings have sparked the development of an intervention programme for local schools, which will promote movement, wellbeing and tackle childhood obesity. Supporting Olympic athletes to achieve success. We’ve been preparing Olympic medallist and Hartpury graduate, Mel Nichols, and former Olympic equestrian rider, Jonty Evans, for sporting challenges. Mel underwent testing in our human performance laboratory before smashing the world record for handcycling from Lands' End to John O’Groats. Jonty received support from our staff and students in the lead up to the Great North Run.
Our students make a difference in sport and physical activity settings. Their passion for improvement means they’re always looking for ways to push the boundaries ofwhat’s possible. Impact-driven Research
Our students learn from experts, using world-class facilities to improve their own performance and analyse the performance of others. They collaborate with national sporting bodies, sports teams and industry professionals to raise standards across all sports. Dissertation findings are often published or presented at conferences to make a real difference in the sporting world.
