Introducing T Levels at Hartpury

T Levels are set to become one of the main choices after GCSEs, replacing BTECs and City and Guilds qualifications in many subjects over the next few years. For Hartpury, this includes animal, agriculture, and equine courses. Developed with employers and educational providers, these two-year ‘technical programmes’ give students the applied skills that industries need. With a T Level, you’ll gain a high-quality education and heaps of practical skills. This will open a clearly defined route into further study or a skilled role within our related land-based industries. We’ve answered your most frequently asked T Level questions below. Why should I study a T Level? The key benefit of completing a T level is the sheer amount of on-the-job experience it includes. You’ll spend 20% of your time – that’s 45 days or nine weeks – gaining first-hand experience of your chosen career whilst developing the practical skills that employers are looking for. That’s in addition to the outstanding education you’ll gain in the classroom. How will I study a T Level? In order to prepare you for a technical role, your learning will take place inside and outside the classroom. You’ll spend 80% of your time with our expert teaching staff, learning the theory and developing a strong foundation of knowledge. The other 20% of your time will be spent on industry placement; putting that knowledge into practice in a real-life setting and gaining applied skills. Our Innovation, Careers and Enterprise (ICE) team will support you to find a placement that matches your career goals through our network of 3,000 employers.

Which T Level can I study at Hartpury?

Agricultural T Levels are launching nationally in 2024. We'll be one of the first providers to deliver T Levels in Livestock Production, Crop Production, and Land-Based Engineering. We'll be adding T Levels in our animal and equine subject areas in future years. Check our website for the most up-to-date course information. How will my T Level compare with A-levels? A T Level qualification is worth the same amount of UCAS points as three A-levels. When you finish your T Level, you'll be well-equipped with the practical skills and expertise to enter employment within a technical role or further specialise at university,* helping to create a stronger economy and a more sustainable future. What if I'm not ready to study a full T Level? Our one-year T Level transition course** will give you the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to progress onto one of our T Levels. Read more on page 33. Studying a T Level qualification can lead to a world of opportunities. Where will yours take you?

Did you know? T Levels are similar to apprenticeships in some ways. They are designed with employers and approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.
