The trip of a lifetime Depending on your degree, you could take us up on the fantastic opportunity to visit Mankwe Nature Reserve in South Africa or Slapton Ley in South Devon.* You’ll gain first-hand experience of life as an animal science professional, as you carry out research and learn from industry experts. Mankwe Wildlife Reserve South Africa This once-in-a-lifetime trip includes exciting safaris and conservation-based fieldwork. You’ll gain insights into important conservation issues such as anti-poaching and discover the methods used by rangers to protect highly targeted wildlife species. You could find yourself animal tracking, joining a night-time game drive, and observing the behaviour of many species on the plains of South Africa. Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve South Devon This stunning coastal landscape is a haven for nature lovers. Discover and study a diverse range of birds, small mammals and invertebrates, living in their natural freshwater, marsh, meadow, rocky shore and mature woodland habitats. Working with your classmates, you’ll collect data and develop applied research skills that you could use in your dissertation and on into your future career.
*Students on our Animal Behaviour and Welfare, and Zoology degrees can go on this optional trip in their second year. This could be a 12-day visit (includes travel time) to Mankwe Wildlife Reserve in South Africa or a 6-day visit to Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve in South Devon, subject to changing Covid-19 restrictions.
