Agriculture research that makes a difference

Harnessing the power of technology is revolutionising thewaywe grow crops and rear livestock. By investing in smart farming innovations, we're enabling our staffand students to produce data-driven research that's helping to solve the industry's biggest challenge yet – feeding a growing world population, sustainably. Investing £1.25m in digital innovation Our 10-year vision is to become a leader that shapes the future of digital farming. Following a successful GFirstLEP bid to the government's Getting Building Fund, we're investing £1.25 million into a new Digital Innovation Farm. Students and agricultural businesses alike will use this to test ideas, carry out research and create products that advance productivity and profitability in the agricultural sector.

Industry-relevant research At Hartpury, we undertake trials with industry partners, which gives our students the opportunity to contribute to studies that are having real outcomes. We’re currently working with UK consultancy and research firm ADAS, to find new ways to control damaging wheat disease, Septoria tritici and increase crop yield. Building on success Our Digital Innovation Farm is the second phase in our transformation, which began with the launch of our £2 million Agri-Tech Centre in 2019. Students have access to smart farming software, precision farming tools and robotics as part of their learning. Read more about our Agri-Tech Centre on page 81.
