We know there’s a lot to take in around your finances. From tuition fees to living costs and loans, it can all seem a bit confusing. That’s why we’ve put this section together, to help you understand what’s what. Tuition fees, living costs and loans

English students There are two types of loans available to English students, provided by the government through Student Finance England. Tuition fee loan – lets you borrow enough money to pay your tuition fees in full. Maintenance loan – this is means tested (dependent on your household income) and allows you to borrow money to support your living costs at university. www.gov.uk/student-finance Please use the student loan calculator as a guide to the loan amounts you will receive www.gov.uk/student-finance-calculato r Welsh students There are loans and bursaries available to Welsh students, provided by the government through Student Finance Wales. Tuition fee loan – lets you borrow enough money to pay your tuition fees in full. Maintenance loan – this is means tested (dependent on your household income) and allows you to borrow money to support your living costs at university. Maintenance grant – you may be eligible to receive some of your maintenance in the form of a Welsh Government Learning Grant (WGLG). Tuition fee loan – lets you borrow enough money to pay your tuition fees in full. International students If you’re a student from outside the UK, there may be financial packages available via organisations in your own country. Our International team can help advise on financial options for you. Please contact international@hartpury.ac.uk. Hartpury University is eligible to certify Federal Direct Loan applications (FAFSA) for students from the USA and we are also recognised as an international provider by private loans company, Sallie Mae. For our Canadian students, we are also recognised by the Ontario Student Aid Program (OSAP) and Alberta Student Aid (ASA). Eligible students can apply under PVFW.

Paying back your loans As a UK student, you don’t start repayments on your student loans until you are earning over £25,000 a year. For example, if you earn £30,000 per year, you would pay back just £37.50 per month. These repayments are made automatically through the tax system. More information can be found at www.gov.uk

Earn while you learn

There are a number of opportunities for you to earn some extra cash while you’re studying at Hartpury. These include being a student ambassador, making the most of an integrated placement year and getting a part-time job. There’s plenty on offer – we’ve popped a few recommendations below. Student ambassador We have a great team of over 60 student ambassadors who represent Hartpury at different events. As a student ambassador, you’ll be paid per hour on a casual contract, which means you can work the hours that suit you. Following a successful selection you’ll receive training and support to build your skills and experience. Students will receive details on applying to become a Student Ambassador after they’ve enrolled onto their course in September. Integrated placement year Some of our courses have the option for students to take an integrated placement year. This allows you to gain invaluable work experience and skills, as well as the potential to earn some money for a year before you come back to finish your degree. Hartpury Innovation, Careers and Enterprise (ICE) As well as providing industry relevant opportunities and placements to complement your studies, the ICE team work closely with academic teams to deliver careers and employability learning activities. The team can also offer 1:1 business advisor consultations for any budding entrepreneurs. Part-time jobs There are a number of part-time job websites available in the Gloucestershire area, if you want to earn some money around your studies. Take a look at some of these websites:
