NEW FUTURES CREATING
Celeste Wilkins PhD (rider biomechanics) student BSc (Hons) Equine Science graduate I’m researching rider posture and its influence on how the horse and rider synchronise. This includes the biomechanics and physiology of equestrian rider technique. I hope that my research hypothesis – getting to the basics of horse-rider harmony – will help coaches to improve their practice." "Hartpury is a place where you can study a top-quality qualification and gain the industry know-how to move into a leadership or technical career. It has the perfect mix of industry and education. I have access to so many experts in equine performance, as well as wider sporting disciplines.
"Zoo research has made a huge contribution to our knowledge of animal welfare needs and continually improves the lives of captive animals. This is really important, but it’s changes in human behaviour that will have a lasting impact on conservation. My experience working at Bristol Zoo made me realise that we need to understand more about how engaging with visitors can contribute to the broader conservation mission of zoos. I want to help zoos to better shape people’s views and behaviours to help improve wildlife protection. Hartpury’s expertise in zoo research made it the obvious choice."
