Get out in the field Our MSc Biodiversity Conservation students have had opportunities to further their learning away from campus. The cohort has regularly undertaken practical sampling techniques such as monitoring soil nutrients, worm abundance, surveying invertebrates and recording plant species, whilst getting to the heart of the many successes and lessons to take forward within the conservation management industry. Trips have included the Knepp Estate, sites managed by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, and the ancient Longney Orchard. These have all provided unique opportunities to understand the challenges that land managers face in the pursuit of increasing environmental benefits for biodiversity, whilst maintaining business sustainability and food production. “My visit to Longney Orchard reminded me of my overall goal that through my studies and future career I will do my best to preserve the wild spaces that stood long before me and are so difficult to replicate.” Lauren Hopkins MSc Biodiversity Conservation student A professional perspective
