HARTPURY_COLLEGE_RESIDENTIAL_GUIDE_2026

Cleaning your room Students are responsible for keeping their bedroom, en-suite shower room (if applicable) and communal areas clean and tidy. The Residential Support team will conduct regular room checks. The communal areas will be cleaned regularly Monday-Friday and shared bedrooms once a week regularly (under-18 rooms only) as per the accommodation licence. For those students who are over 18, they must take responsibility for regularly cleaning their bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms, they need to provide their own cleaning products to do this. Bedroom and bathrooms bins are the responsibility of students and should be emptied regularly at the outside bin area. Students need to provide their own bin liners for these bins and should not utilise the bin liners that are provided for the communal areas. All common rooms have waste bins and every resident is expected, under the Accommodation Licence, to support Hartpury’s Environmental and Sustainability Policy by utilising the recycling facilities provided. Bedroom and bathrooms should be emptied regularly at the outside bin area. It is the joint responsibility of all residents to keep the common areas tidy and in a hygienic state. It is your responsibility to wash items immediately after use. Should the residential cleaning team be unable to gain access to the sinks because of unwashed items, these items will be removed. If common rooms are persistently found in an unacceptable state Non-academic behaviour management action may be taken. A split charge for the hall may be applied. Please note: Toilet rolls will only be provided in accommodation that has communal washing facilities. If you have been allocated an en-suite room you’ll need to supply your own toilet paper. You will need to provide your own cleaning materials to clean the areas that you are responsible for. We recommend using a multi-surface cleaner, we do not allow bleach, a hazardous chemical, within our halls of residence. Cleaning standards and requirements The Residential Cleaning team will clean the facilities but students are also required to keep the following communal facilities clean to the following standards. Common Room Duty Each hall of residence has a shared common room for students to use (either by floor or corridor). All students are expected to participate in the upkeep of cleanliness in these common rooms and to clear up after themselves, by washing up their own items and ensuring all rubbish is put in with their recycling or general rubbish bins. The residential cleaning team will empty the rubbish and recycling bins Monday - Friday. Common Room Fridges The fridges in the shared common rooms are for all students to use. We ask that students mark their name on any items stored in the fridge, so that the owner of every item is easily identified. If students are bringing batch meals from home, we do ask that all plastic containers with meals are named, and also dated or labelled with the date the food was prepared. Each week the residential cleaning team will ensure that any food in the fridges that has past use by dates are removed. This is to ensure that the shared fridges are kept clean for all students.
