You don't have to be able to ride to study one of our equine course, however, you will need some practical experience of horse care and handling. You'll have plenty of opportunities to ride alongside your lectures, if you want to.* You could bring your horse to stay in our livery on campus or, if you don't have your own horse, there are opportunities through the equestrian club.

Riding at Hartpury

Riding opportunities We have over 50 loan horses, in addition to 150 DIY livery stables if you decide to bring your own horse – but you don't need to. Equestrian Club Our student-run Equestrian Club brings horse lovers together for recreational riding and activities. We also have vaulting and polo clubs, alongside the most common equine disciplines including dressage and show jumping. *Riding at Hartpury is subject to an assessment. If you're not already at the required level, don't worry. We've teamed up with a local riding school to provide subsidised lessons and help you achieve the necessary skill level.

Riding competition If you’re looking to develop as an equestrian athlete, you might be eligible to join our Equine Academy. You’ll have access to world class coaches, specialist training support, and unrivalled facilities to help you reach your peak for competition. This includes a Rider Performance Centre, equipped with a gym, sports therapy suite and Racewood eventing and racing simulators – the most advanced in an educational institution.
