It’s likely you’re feeling both excited and nervous about your loved one starting university – whether we’re just down the road, at the other end of the country or across the globe. Times like this can exacerbate nerves, as they head out into a changing world, but there are also plenty of new and exciting opportunities emerging too. This is a time to feel incredibly proud. Your loved one will grow hugely over the course of their degree and, when graduation arrives, you’ll be applauding a very different person to the one who embarked on this journey years before. Enjoy watching themmature and grow, knowing that you’ve provided the foundations for their success. As they become more independent, you can help themwith their transition – small things like using a washing machine and cooking nutritious food, to budgeting and effective time management. You should check-in regularly too, but don’t overdo it. Ensure they feel supported but remember that this is their time to develop their own sense of independence and the notion of self-study that we encourage is a big part of that. We have plenty of activities happening during their first fewweeks and months here that will help them to make friends and settle in. Our student support teams are also on-hand every step of the way, to support your loved one with every aspect of Hartpury life – academic, personal and professional. Finally, Gloucestershire is among the UK’s most beautiful counties with lots of popular tourist spots and accommodation options nearby.
